Lewis and Clark Expeditions, outfitters and guides to Montana's Missouri, Blackfoot and Smith Rivers.

Missouri River

Virtual Tour of Missouri River

The Missouri River flows to the rhythms of fishermen's dreams: trout jitterbugging in jazzed up riffles, a serenade of soft adagios in the slow glassy runs or brown trout slurping crazed caddis flies in discordant eddies. This is the home for thousands of wild rainbows and brown trout which all pay tribute to beauty by way of their independence, strength and nobility. Anglers pay homage as well with long fine tippets, plenty of backing and casts that gracefully trespass Montana's big Sky.

Blackfoot River

Virtual Tour of Blackfoot River

The Blackfoot River whispers through the mountain ponderosa pines, slashes through canyons, seeks solace in soft meadows before its final assault through a maze of boulder fields and rapids. The Blackfoot is a beautiful Montana wild.

Smith River

Virtual Tour of Smith River
Maps of the Smith River

The Smith River is a retreat into the interior of Montana. The Smith is the Montana of hidden canyons, quiet waters and enchanted moments where angler and trout are joined in the stillness of river music. Lewis and Clark Expeditions escorts anglers through 60 miles of this Montana wilderness in the company of graceful raptors, arching rainbows and the hushed movement of deer and elk. Stoneflies and caddisflies flutter atop nervous riffles leading trout into temptation. Mayflies float languidly down a canyon wall. Large brown trout rise deliberately to sip them.

The Smith River unfolds her mysterious moods with each new bend in the river. We float past pictographs from ancient Native American shaman, which offers us a link to the past. We are mesmerized by the effortless glide of the bald eagle, which anchors us in the present. A passage through the Smith River Canyon is an opportunity to trace both the best of yesterday and today.

By any measure, a float trip down Montana's Smith River is among the most profoundly exhilarating experiences to be had in the American West. For the fly fisherman, it is something akin to heaven on Earth.
